I discovered with sadness today that Columbo star Peter Falk has Alzheimer's Disease and apparently doesn't know where he is anymore. This is very sad. I was reading this story and part way down it says:-
"At first though, it seemed Falk had slipped into character as he addressed the sell-out crowd about his autobiography, called Just One More Thing, after Columbo's famous catchphrase.
He appeared nervous, collided with a microphone on several occasions and his memory failed him.
"I can't remember half of what's in this book," he joked."
I wonder if this was the beginnings of this horrendous illness. I happened to go out on Sunday night where I met a couple, one of whom has early onset dementia and aside from the fact he kept repeating things he seemed fine. I happened to notice he did seem a little unsteady on his legs though at times and often forgot what he was about to say. The worst part was that he knew it was happening and admitted he got quite angry about it.
Peter Falk has been a staple of my television viewing for a long time now. I'm not much of a film watcher and aside from a few selected tv programmes, I rarely sit down these days to watch the box but Columbo is something I'll watch no matter how many times it's been on before. I just love it so to find out that its star is seriously ill, I find quite upsetting. It's quite ironic really because Lt. Columbo always appears clumsy and not quite with it to begin with then in time, his extraordinary intellect is revealed.
